Ready for take off?

It’s weird. When I first put up the counter in the left column here (after some months of planning and finally setting the date), it said “186 days to take off”. It seemed like an eternity, and I couldn’t wait to get going. I was young, free and single, not a worry on my mind, and I could barely believe the dream of traveling across the US would soon come true.

Today, the counter says “1 day left to take off”. And in those 185 days, my world has changed. I’ve met the girl of my dreams and I’m madly in love - and thus, it’s a little bittersweet to see that the countdown has come to an end.

Louis (aka Stein-G) joked about how this would happen - some hundred days ago - and I just laughed at him. And swore that I would go no matter what.

And I will. And it will be great. I’ll have loads of fun, experience a lot of cool things, visit many beautiful places, take a shitload of photos. And then I’ll come home, and my girlfriend will be there, and everything will be just perfect. But today, I’ll allow myself to be a little sentimental…

Not to worry, I’ll be taking care of your little sweetheart this evening, Selma. I’ll keep her occupied and entertained with activities involving a large dark room and a knitting needle.
